Statue of the Finnish poet, with tributes, on his birthday, 6 July
6 July is a Finnish Flag Day, to celebrate the birthday of Eino Leino, and also poetry in general and summertime as well.
There are flagposts everywhere, so looking down a street you would see a lot of them, on ordinary buildings such as apartment blocks, as well as on grander buildings.
There are six days when flags must be flown by law. There is also a statutory requirement to fly the flag on election days, and whenever a new president is inaugurated.
There are a further eleven days when it is customary to fly the flag.
So that makes seventeen Flag Days, at least!
