La Chandeleur, 2 février
To be honest, I ordered a savoury galette, and not a sweet crêpe, as is
appropriate for la Chandeleur.
On 2 February (forty days after Christmas) this day is celebrated in
France.
People eat crêpes, and the person cooking it must hold a coin in their
other hand, to ensure prosperity throughout the year.
There is a connection with the idea of a festival of light (the round
yellow crêpe can represent the sun). In Christian thought, the idea that this was
when Jesus was presented in the temple. But it's also probably an evolution
from Roman and Celtic celebrations.

An evolution.
Oh yes, and 2 February is also Groundhog Day ....
