The Maquis, the Resistance, here in Morbihan

On this map they show Kerhiec, the tiny hamlet where I live.

The Maquis (the Resistance), were active here, at great risk to life and

limb.

I know this, because I've spoken to my neighbour who, as a young man, was a

'maquisard'.

There were parachute drops here, of ammunition and other supplies, for a

rearguard action at the time of the Normandy landings.

I know the fields where the parachutes landed. I've been told where the

supplies were hidden.

My neighbours were so brave, patriots to a man.

When the enemy retreated, three days before Liberation, they showed their

revenge by torching three of the five houses in our little hamlet.
