The chapel of St Gildas
St Gildas was a Welsh monk, or, more accurately British, since there was no
distinction in the sixth century.
He was the author of the famous book, 'De excidio et Conquestu Brittaniae'.
A number of churches were dedicated to him in Brittany, and it is possible
he composed his book here. Had he been living amongst the kings of Christian
Britain he would hardly have been so bold in his condemnation of them with
his complaint that the morality of the age was deteriorating owing to too much
luxury.
