Lycee students blocking a major junction in Pontivy.

Students were the first to object to the new employment law for young

people (CPE, the first job contract) .

And then the public unions have joined them.

The problem?

This law would make it possible to sack any young person (under 26) without

any explanation. That could make it possible to sack someone illegally, and

could help employers to hire ever younger and cheaper labour. In some way it

could make the unemployment figures look a little more rosy.

In any case, the unelected Prime Minister, Dominique de Villepin, is trying

to introduce this law under Article 49-3, which can be enforced without he

agreement of parliament.

Democratic, or what?

nominated, and never elected in his life.

Students were trying to block this street junction, but this particular

driver kept going, so youngsters were carried along on the bonnet of the car.

Just after I took this photo, that really huge gendarme came and told me off.

I was really scared that he'd confiscate my camera.



Actually I didn't quite understand what he said, and as I turned to walk

away I said to some students who were standing on the corner, 'Je n'ai pas

compris ce qu'il a dit' and they thought this was hilarious, and all burst out

laughing, very loudly.



Of course this only made things look even worse, as though I'd made a joke

about the gendarme. So I carried on meekly walking down the street, trying to

look as inconspicuous as I usually do...

quipages au copmlet venaient avec leut famille a la suite d'un voeu fait pendant

les tempetes. L'ex-voto de 'Notre Dame Damour' fut construit en 1748.
