Because so many English words come from French, you could be forgiven for thinking that sometimes this happens in reverse.
So, loutre, could it possibly come from 'l'outre', which could mean 'the otter'?
Answer, no!
Loutre comes from the Latin 'lutra', and otter comes from old English 'otor', akin to the word 'water'.
So a 'bon ami', but for the wrong reasons!
