Sawing, then splitting

Sawing, then splitting, originally uploaded by Rhian vK.

Last week I bought a corde of wood, but when it was delivered I realised that most of the logs were too large. Some of them too long, but mainly they were too large to burn well; they needed splitting.
Today Jean-Paul and Germain returned with a chain-saw and an attachment on the tractor, an impressive wood-splitting device.

I've seen these vertical stones by other churches.

Were they to keep animals out, I wonder?

Only rarely do you see a graveyard around the church here in Brittany.

They used to be common, but then cemeteries were established, often on the

outskirts of 'le bourg'.

The small churchyards were running out of space, but many communes thought

people should be buried at some distance from habitations, for reasons of

hygiene.

I wonder who lives in a house like this?

Well, it 's certainly flowering earlier here, or is it down to global

warming?
